Our Story

Gombi began with a simple question: why does a 200-year-old craft tradition struggle to find its way onto the shelves of the world that would love it most?

In Channapatna, Karnataka, artisan families have been hand-turning wooden toys on foot-powered lathes for generations — long before "Montessori" or "eco-friendly" were words anyone used. The wood is ivory wood, naturally light and easy to shape. The colours come from vegetable dyes, not synthetic paint. The toys are simple, durable, and built to be loved by hands much smaller than ours.

We started Gombi to bring this craft directly to families who care about where their children's toys come from — without losing what makes it special along the way. Every piece carries a Geographical Indication (GI) certification, meaning it's legally protected and verified to come from Channapatna. No other wooden toy in the world can make that claim.

When you buy a Gombi toy, a real artisan family in Channapatna benefits directly. We're proud of that, and we think you'll feel it too.
